PM, Sonia to visit flood-hit K'taka and AP
Bangalore, Oct 5: Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Union Home Minister P Chidambaram will be visiting the flood-hit regions of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh to assess the situation.
Informing about Gandhi's visit on Sunday, Oct 4, a party spokesperson said, "Sonia Gandhi will undertake an aerial survey of the worst-affected districts of Kurnool and Mahboobnagar in Andhra Pradesh for a spot assessment of the death and destruction caused by heavy rains and flood waters."
While Sonia Gandhi is expected to land on Jindal airstrip at Tornagallu on Monday, Oct 5 morning to visit Bellary, one of the worst hit regions of Karnataka, Manmohan Singh is scheduled to visit both states on Tuesday, Oct 6.
According to the latest media reports, water level is receding in north Karnataka and the state death toll stands at 170. Chief Minister, BS Yeddyurappa has urged the Prime Minister to declare the 'unprecedented' flood situation in Karnataka as a 'national disaster' and release Rs 10,000 crore for relief measures.

Heavy rains have lashed south India due to the depression in Bay of Bengal since Sep 29 leading to one of the worst floods the country has seen recently.
