Traders demand for a High Court Bench in Agra
Agra, Oct 1(ANI): Traders across Agra shut down their shops on Thursday and demanded establishment of a High Court bench in the city as earlier recommended by Jaswant Singh Commission in 1985.
People also staged demonstration by burning tyres and stopping both rail and road traffic.
"Agra is totally shut today and the traders have shut their shops as a mark of protest," said Ram Tandon, a Congress leader.
Protestors said that their agitation would continue and intensify further until their demands were met.
Earlier, Government had constituted a commission under the leadership of former judge Jaswant Singh in 1981, but its recommendations, as per which High Court benches had to be established, have not been implemented yet.
"This movement for establishment of High Court bench in Agra is taking the form of a mass movement and this movement won't die ill the time a High Court bench is established as per the recommendations of Jaswant Singh report," said Rakesh Bhatnagar, a lawyer. (ANI)
