Police quells violent protests in Uttar Pradesh
Hathras, Sept 30 (ANI): Police personnel fired in the air to prevent protestors from damaging the Hathras railway junction in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday.
The police had to resort to this step after the crowd pelted stones at the Mahananda Express train. They also torched three bogies as part of their demand for restore services of certain express trains at Hathras.
Protesters blocked the railway tracks and surrounded the train from all sides, before setting the bogies on fire.
The protest has been on for the past three days after the authorities refused to heed their demand for scheduling stoppages of specific express and mail trains.
The halting of trains at the junction was stopped two months ago, after the metre gauge track was converted to a broad gauge line. (ANI)
