Nepal Maoists form talks panel to end political deadlock

Kathmandu, Sep 30 (ANI): The Unified CPN (Maoist) has constituted a five-member committee to hold talks with other parties in an effort to end the current political deadlock in Nepal.

The committee members include vice presidents Dr Baburam Bhattarai and Narayan Kaji Shrestha, Netra Bikram Chand, Posta Bahadur Bogati and Dev Gurung.

Earlier, the party had decided to adopt more flexibility in their demands for ending the crisis.

Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress and the CPN (UML) are scheduled to hold a joint meeting later today to chart out strategies for addressing demands raised by the Maoists.

The two parties are likely to set their final line regarding Maoist demand for parliamentary debate on president's move to reinstate army chief.

Earlier, Maoist Prachanda had expressed his optimism that prevailing political deadlock might end in the near future.

He however put condition that parties must be ready for constitution amendment to end the crisis.

He claimed that many leaders and cadres of the CPN (UML) are of the opinion that step taken by the president to reinstate army chief sacked by the then Maoist-led government is unconstitutional.

Prachanda further said his party is ready to discuss all alternatives from other parties and warned of untoward accidents f the continued deadlock affected the peace process and writing Constitution

The deadlock, which has been delaying Constitution writing process and army integration, is likely to cause constitutional eadlock if parliament obstruction does not end within mid October to pass the budget, Nepalnews reported. (ANI)
