Ban on reporting details of Shopian case probe

Shopian, Sep 30: The Jammu Kashmir High Court has issued a blanket ban on reporting the details of the Shopian Double Murder case investigation along with directing the CBI to not disclose any details to the press.

A division bench of the court comprising Chief Justice Barin Ghosh and Justice Mohammed Yaqoob imposed this ban on Wednesday, Sep 30.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) started investigating the double murder case on Sep 17.

22-year-old Neelofar and 17-year-old Aasiya, were found dead in May 2009 leading to a big stir in the state of Jammu Kashmir where people alleged that the Indian security personnel had raped and killed the two women.

An important breakthrough was made in the case when the forensic team that exhumed the bodies of the victims for autopsy found that Aasiya was a virgin.

CBI told the high court that the media reports ruling put possibility of rape were 'false'. The investigative agency rejected the 'no rape' reports saying the forensic reports which were to establish rape were yet to come in.
