Shopian, Sep 29: The bodies of the two women in the Shopian rape and murder case in Jammu Kashmir were exhumed on Monday, Sep 28 to gather forensic evidence, an official said.
Accompanied by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) team headed by a deputy inspector general, a local magistrate, district police chief, relatives of the victims and some elders of the town, the experts exhumed the bodies of Nilofar and her sister-in-law Asiya.
The bodies were examined by a team of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, headed by Dr T D Dogra.
The team took 23 samples, 15 from Asiya Jan and eight from Neelofar Jan.
"The doctors took samples from lungs, uterus, bone, hair, etc. These samples will go through different tests and the results may take almost a month to come," said Dr Ghulam Qadir Khan who was present with the AIIMS team
The investigation was handed over to the CBI after the special investigating team (SIT) set up by the state government failed to crack the case.
