PM to inaugurate International Conference on Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy-2009 today

New Delhi, Sept 29 (ANI): Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh will inaugurate a three-day International Conference on 'Peaceful Uses of Atomic Energy-2009' here today.

The Conference is being organised as a part of the year long programme to mark the birth centenary year of Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, who was the founder of the Indian Atomic Energy Programme and also had the distinction of being the President of the first International Conference on this subject held in Geneva in 1955.

It is being organised by the Department of Atomic Energy in association with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the Indian Nuclear Society (INS).

With a back drop of the progress made in the last five decades, this Conference will aim at discussing options that would contribute to developing a future road map for the growth of nuclear energy and its peaceful applications.

The inaugural session will be addressed by Pranab Mukherjee, Finance Minister, Dr. Mohammed Elbaradei (DG) IAEA and Professor P. Rama Rao, President Indian Nuclear Society.

Pranab Mukherjee will also release Bhabha Centenary Commemorative Coins on this occasion. (ANI)
