Kerry-Lugar bill 'conditionalities' prerogative of 'sole super power' US: Haqqani
Islamabad, Sep.29 (ANI): Amid the growing discontent over the conditions attached with the Kerry-Lugar aid bill in the country, Pakistan's Ambassador to the US, Hussain Haqqani has said that the US' policies could not be altered.
"The US was the sole super power of the contemporary world and it was not possible for any country to influence its polices. The people who are criticising the recently passed Kerry-Luger bill have not studied the document in detail," Haqqani said.
Referring to the criticism the Pakistan government is facing following the acceptance of the multi-billion dollar US aid package, Haqqani said it was the people of Pakistan who have to decide what kind of relations they wanted to have with Washington.
"A few individuals could not be given a mandate to take a decision in this regard. Maintaining good relations with the US was in the larger interest of the nation," The Daily Times quoted Haqqani, as saying.
"The law of Kerry-Lugar bill was legislated not by Pakistani government but US Congress did, so the conditions through this law are applied not upon Pakistani government but on US overnment," Haqqani added. (ANI)
