I allowed Bhutto to return as no corruption charges were proved against her : Musharraf

Lahore, Sep.29 (ANI): Former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf has said that o corruption charges were proved against former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto and that was the reason why he allowed her to return to the country.

Musharraf, who is currently on a lecture tour to US, told media persons in Virginia that he had asked Bhutto not to return to Pakistan in 2007 as there were serious threats to her life then.

He also claimed that Sharif brothers tried to pressurize the government at that time through Saudi Arabia to facilitate their return to Pakistan.

Musharraf said he had planned to hold elections in 2007, but could not do so due to the judicial crisis, The Daily Times reports.

Defending his actions of removing the judges of higher judiciary including Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in November 2007, Musharraf said : " It was my constitutional responsibility to send a reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry." (ANI)
