Halt prosecution against Quattrochi: Centre to SC
New Delhi, Sep 29: The central government told the Supreme Court that prosecution against Ottavio Quattrocchi, the Italian businessman, who was accused of being involved in the Bofors case was halted.
Solicitor General Gopal Subramaniam made the statement before a bench of Chief Justice K G Balakrishnan during the hearing of a lawsuit of 1997.
The bench demanded that Quattrocchi"s London bank account should be frozen.
Quattrocchi was accused of being a middleman in the 1.2 billion dollar purchase of artillery from Swedish arms maker Bofors AB in 1986 for the Indian Army.
He, however, denied all the allegations.
