Militants target VIP residences in Manipur

Imphal, Sep 27(ANI): Two major tragedies was recently averted in Manipur, when police detected an improvised explosive device (IED) planted in a car inside the premises of Manipur Raj Bhawan and in another incident Minister of consumer affairs and public distribution Y Erabot escaped an attack when three bombs were hurled at his residence.

According to reports, unidentified persons, who came in two cars, drove into the Raj Bhavan on the pretext of submitting a memorandum to Governor and later fled in another other vehicle parked outside.

However, the Manipur Police bomb disposal squad detected the Maruti 800 car fitted with bomb in the parking area of Raj Bhavan in time.

The explosive materials were taken out from the vehicle and later set off safely at Pangei police firing range. A case has been registered at City police station.

"The main gate, checking and others are conducted by the special branch. The district police are providing security from outside. In addition, CRPF personnel's are looking after security inside.

An investigation has started and definitely the investigation will bring about something, " said L Kailun, Senior Superintendent of Police.

Several locals condemned the incident, and said that such planting of bombs were not right and claimed that such acts of terrorism are criminal.

"If militants can attack at such a high security place like Raj Bhavan, which is also near the CM's bungalow, for an ordinary person, life will be very insecure," said B.P. Joy Kumar, a local.

Meanwhile, KCP (MC) Lanheiba Meitei militant outfit claimed the responsibility for planting the bomb at the Raj Bhavan.

In another incident, militants hurled three bombs at the residence of Y Erabot.

Though no one was injured in the blast, the Police have launched a massive search to nab the culprits. (ANI)
