Garba fever rocks Ahmedabad on eighth day of Navartri
Ahmedabad, Sep. 27 (ANI): People in Ahmedabad enjoyed the traditional vibrant folk dance of Garba with full fervour on the eighth day of Navartri.
Clad in traditional colourful dresses with a lot of mirror and handwork, boys and girls danced to the fullest enjoying every moment of the festival on Saturday.
Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and many celebrities made their presence felt at one of the community Garba events.
Men and women of all age groups and musical groups had been practising for the nine-day festival for weeks together.
"Gujarat's Garba dance is different and has a different style. We practice for a month for this event. We do Garba in a different style. We dress up everyday in new clothes for the occasion. We enjoy a lot. The atmosphere here is great," said Radhika Panjwani, a Garba dancer.
"We celebrate the Garba festival. We perform a lot of different steps while dancing. We enjoy a lot. We are not scared of anything. We enjoy all the nine days of Navaratri. Gujarat's Garba is different from other states' Garba. And we enjoy a lot," said Manish, another Garba dancer.
The Navaratri festival is celebrated in honour of Hindu Goddess Durga.
It is believed that during the Navaratri, Goddess Durga descends on earth to rid it of the demons and bless her devotees. (ANI)
