Chandrayaan II: ISRO & NASA get advice from Kalam

Mumbai, Sep 26: While the success of Chandrayaan I in discovering water on moon pushed the Indian Space Research Organisation to rethink the sequel moon mission, former President and scientist APJ Abdul Kalam has also come up with suggestions for Chandrayaan II.

Kalam who was in Mumbai to inaugurate the national science seminar on 'Chandrayaan: Promises and Concerns' for school students, said that he haa advised both ISRO and NASA deploy surface robotic penetrator in 'Chandrayaan-II' mission to study more about the presence of water molecules on moon.

"I suggested to both ISRO and NASA to work on future mission of Chandrayaan-II using moon surface robotic penetrator during my recent visit to California Institute of Technology in US, where NASA scientists presented the findings of Moon Mineralogy Mapper (M3) to Indian scientists," Kalam told the students.

In another suggestion Kalam proposed making spacecrafts weighing one-kilogram by 2050 in order to bring down costs to USD 2,000 from USD 20,000.
