WB politicians join Durga Puja celebrations
Kolkata, Sep 25: Durga Puja in the city would soon see Union Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee turn a priest while Railway Minister Mamata Banerjee is already busy inaugurating puja pandals across the city.
In keeping with family tradition, Mukherjee would worship the Goddess at his ancestral village Miriti near Kirnahar in Birbhum district.
On the other hand, for Banerjee puja is a time for socialising.
"I make public contact while visiting pandals," said she.
CPI(M) leader Robin Deb echoed the same view.
"The festival gives me an opportunity to be in touch with the people," said he.
For Forward Bloc All India General Secretary Debabrata Biswas, the four-day festival is a 'break from politics'.
