After incursions, China invades Ramalilas
Lucknow, Sep 23: After incursions along the Indo-Sino border, looks like the China has managed to invade Indian mythology too.
Apparently, the actors playing the parts of Ram, Hanuman and Ravan in the Ramlilas being performed across the state of Uttar Pradesh are not only sporting outfits from China but are also fighting with bows and arrows with a 'Made in China' tag.
"This year, the costumes of various characters have been imported from foreign countries like China," Pundit Ram Kumar, who runs a Ramlila committee in Gonda was quoted as saying in a news agency report.
Earlier, the costumes used to come from Indian states like Madurai and Kolkata. But, since the Chinese merchandise are cheaper and look much better, the Ramlila organisers are opting for these, Ram Kumar said.
According to the owner of another shop Sangam Chitrashala, Munna Lal, the locally made costumes and masks are heavier compared to the masks made in China which are also more vibrant.
