Bhopal, Sept 21 (ANI): Failed by authorities, residents of Bhopal resorted to begging to collect money for repairing a road.

The residents of Bagmugliya extension colony are collecting money through donations to repair and asphalt a broken road leading to their colony.

The bumpy road has caved in many places and has become a nuisance for drivers and residents who use the road.

Those who go to work on weekdays collect money on Sunday and will continue doing so until they get enough money to build the road and a crematorium.

People have been putting up with the bad road for almost 15 years. They say collecting money through donation is the last resort for them following the neglect by the authorities.

"The road is in poor condition. In spite of requesting the authority, nothing has been done on this ground. There is a crematorium nearby which needs proper arrangements. We will send the collected money to municipality so that they can build and asphalt the road," said Pratima Pandey, a resident.

They also complained that they have been paying their taxes ever since they started living there and have met people concerned to highlight their problem, but of no avail.

"People have been paying taxes, including property and road taxes, ever since the colony came into being. All we have is a broken road and the authority concerned is careless about it," said Uma Shankar Tiwari, president, Bagmugliya Extension Colony.

So far the people have collected Rs 5,000. They may take a long time to collect the desired amount of money for carrying out the construction work, but they hope their act will be able to stir sleeping authorities. (ANI)
