Guj Riots: Nanavati panel refuses to summon Modi
Ahmedabad, Sep 19: According to latest media reports, Nanavati commission that is probing the 2002 post-Godhra riots in Gujarat has not summoned Chief Minister, Narendra Modi.
It has, however, asked three officials of the Chief Minister Office (CMO) to file affidavits with regard to their telephonic conversation with some of the riots accused during the communal violence. The commission comprising Rtd Justices G T Nanavati and Akshay Mehta issued the order on Friday, Sep 18.
This comes move is based on the application by the NGO, Jansangharsh Manch (JSM), representing some of the riot victims that alleges that the some CMO officials were in constant contact with some of the accused, including former VHP leader Jaidip Patel and Babu Bajrangi.
JSM urged the commission to call on Modi and other CMO officials for questioning in connection with the riots that was sparked off when Sabarmati Express was set on fire in Feb 2002.
