After PM, Army Chief downplays Chinese incursions
Chennai, Sep 19: Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh's attempt to cool off the tension over reports of increased Chinese incursions is now followed by Army Chief General Deepak Kapoor downplaying the violations along the Indo-Sino Border.
Saying that there was no cause for worry or concern, Gen Kapoor told reporters on Saturday, Sep 19, "The Prime Minister has made a statement yesterday that there has not been any more incursions or transgressions as compared to last year. They are almost at the same level," he said asking the media not to over hype the matter."
On Thursday, Sep 19, Manmohan Singh downplayed the incursions into Indian territory assuring the country that he was in touch with the the highest levels in China.
Also speaking on the recent instances of ceasefire violations of Pakistan, Gen Kapoor said that Indian forces were 'suitably' responding to them. He said that the National Security Advisor, MK Narayan has met Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yan and they had a 'good discussion'.
