Mush admits mistake of sacking CJ
Texas, Sep 18: Former Pakistani president Pervez Musharraf admitted that sacking Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry was a mistake.
“Now, after seeing the incidents following his dismissal from the office I realised that I shouldn"t have done that, said Musharraf while delivering a lecture at Trinity University, San Antonio, Texas.
“It was a mistake to send the reference against him to Supreme Judicial Council, though it was my constitutional and legal obligation.The reference resulted in a chaos in the country… Probably I won"t commit such things in future."
Musharraf added that he never had any personal anomosity towards Justice Chaudhary.
Musharraf sacked Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry in Nov 2007.
Following the orders of Mohammad Akmal Khan, Islamabad Additional Sessions Judge a criminal case was filed against Musharraf.
It was complained that Supreme Court judges and their families were house arrested and their children were neither allowed to attend school nor permitted to appear in examinations.
However, the Supreme Court declared the emergency and confinement to be unconstitutional.
