Kochi, Sep 17 (ANI): Navy Chief Admiral Nirmal Kumar Verma today asked all the maritime stakeholders to work together against terror, here on Thursday.

Admiral Verma is visiting the Southern Naval Command for the first time after taking over the reins of the Indian Navy.

Addressing the sailors and all ranks of the Southern Naval Command, Admiral Verma said the coastal security has become a new challenge in the Indian waters and a co-operation by all the stakeholders is paramount.

"I am talking about the Mumbai terror attacks that happened in last November. Where it was found that there were lapses in coastal security because of which such situation had arisen in Mumbai," Admiral Verma said.

He added : "When the matter was looked into, it was found that even if navy and coastal guards work together, it is not sufficient because in maritime sphere there are lot of stakeholders. So it is important for them all to work together and closely with each other."

Admiral Verma also emphasized the need of support from the fishermen community in maintaining the coastal security. (ANI)
