TMC & Cong demolish 'Red Fort' in Siliguri
Kolkata, Sep 16: Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress and Congress together ended the three decade rein of the Left parties with the win in Siliguri Municipal Corporation polls.
TMC and Congress together won 30 of 47 seats, leaving a meagre 17 for the Left.
Interestingly, Bengal's second most important commercial hub and the nerve centre of North Bengal politics was one of the few municipal corporations that has done well under West Bengal"s Urban Development Minister Ashok Bhattacharjee.
And TMC supremo, Mamata Banerjee had not even visited the place once.
Terming this win as demolition of the Red Fort, triumphant Mamata, said, "I fail to understand why the CPM is still holding on to power."
To this Chief Minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee has only this to say, "There is victory, and there is defeat in life."
With this debacle in north Bengal, the Left is forced to face the bitter reality of how tough TMC-Congress alliance could be.
