3G handsets to cost as low as Rs 5,000: Report
New Delhi, Sep 15: Contrary to the initial speculation that the 3G handsets would be expensive, the industry experts claim that the prices of the handset will be below Rs 5,000 in a year.
Quoting industry sources, a Times News Network report, says that the third generation handsets could be 'so everyday'.
Apart from costing much lesser, there will be nearly 39.5 crore 3G handsets in the country by 2013, says the report.
The 3G spectrum auction is all set to take place in Dec 2009 and with the introduction of services the prices of the handsets are expected to dip.
Apart from bringing down the handset prices, 3G services are expected to give a boost to the broadband penetration in the country.
