Gujarat by-poll: BJP wins 5, Cong 2 seats

Ahmedabad, Sep 14: Ruling BJP in Gujarat on Monday, Sep 15, seized five seats from Congress in the Assembly by-poll and yielded one to Congress which retained another seat.

The BJP won in Jasdan, Chotila, Dehgam, Danta and Sami-Hariz which were held by Congress earlier.

BJP, which earlier held Kodinar in the last Assembly elections, lost it this time in the by-polls to Congress. The Opposition also retained Dhoraji seat taking its tally to two.

"The results of the by-elections show that BJP still remains a preferred choice of the people of Gujarat," said BJP General Secretary Jayantibhai Barot.

The by-elections results will serve to be a great relief for Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, after the unimpressive performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections and defeat to Congress in Junagadh Municipal Corporation body elections.
