Enquiry into Delhi school stampede
New Delhi, Sep 10: Expressing grief over the death of five students in a school stampede, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit ordered a high level enquiry into the incident.
"We are very sad that five innocent lives have been lost in the accident. Appropriate action will be taken against those found lax in their duty. Area Deputy Commissioner will conduct an enquiry," she said.
The CM visited the hospital treating about 30 students who were injured in the stampede. The government has announced a compensation of Rs one lakh for the deceased and Rs 50,000 each for the injured.
"Four of the injured are in ICUs in serious conditions, while some are in the trauma centre. Their treatment will be free of cost," Dikshit said.
Dikshit brushed aside rumours that the accident took place due to electric current passing through the rain water collected in the school premises and claimed that stampede took place when some students were rushing up a stair case while some others were running down
