Peace in China after sacking of top officials

China, Sept 6: With sacking of the two high officials and doctor's reassurance, peace returned to China's far western city of Urumqi after the needle attacks.

However, Han Chinese said that they were not fully satisfied by the sacking of city party secretary Li Zhi and regional chief of police Liu Yaohua.

Both the officials were in office in the Jul 2009 Uighur riot, which killed 197 people.

On Thursday, Sep 3, and Friday, Sep 4, tens of thousands of Han Chinese demanded the resignation of regional party secretary Wang Lequan. alleging his failure to provide security.

However, the residents were still not sure of how much firing these officials would help.

"Firing the two leaders should make things better. But it's too early to say if the needle attacks are over," said Ge,a fruit seller.

However, the police detained 25 Uighur over the attacks.
