Burqa row: Girls can use dupatta as headscarf

Mangalore, Sep 5: The Mangalore college that imposed a dress code that did not make place for burqa and Aysha Asmin the girl who insisted on wearing a headscarf in class have met halfway, say reports.

According to a Times of India reports, the SVS College, Bantwal, near Mangalore decided to put an end to the issue by allowing the girls to use the dupatta or the shawl of the uniform as a headscarf.

The Mangalore University vice-chancellor, local MLAs, representatives of the college and others, on Thursday, Sep 3 night met on the matter and arrived at this solution.

Earlier in Aug, a huge controversy was sparked off when the college allegedly restricted Asmin from attending classes wearing a headscarf. While the girl and the family said that they were being victimised, the college maintained that the rules did not allow any student to wear a dress which symbolises religion.
