Mumbai: AI flight catches fire, passengers safe

Mumbai, Sep 4: A major tragedy was averted at Mumbai Airport on Friday, Sep 4, after one of the engines of an Air India flight caught fire while getting ready to run-off.

Reports said the flight, which was bound for Saudi Arabian capital Riyadh, was immediately grounded when a passenger detected sparks flying out of one of the engines.

In a statement, the Air India said, "The engine caught fire which was immediately extinguished. The 213 passengers onboard were safely evacuated and will be accommodated in other flight."

Officials of the Directorate General of Civil Aviation are investigating the causes for what would have been a huge tragedy.
