Indonesian earthquake death toll may rise

Indonesia, Sept 3: The death toll from the 7.0-magnitude earthquake may rise, reported the emergency officials.

The earthquake had struck on Wednesday, Sep 2, afternoon killing 44, injuring 300 people and destroying about 18,000 buildings and homes. .

The quake epicentre was about 115km (70 miles) off the south coast of Java, near Tasikmalaya.

"We are still searching for the survivors who might be buried under their houses or buildings," disaster management agency staff Maman Susanto told AFP news agency.

Indonesia rests on the Pacific Ring of Fire, one of the most earthquake and volcanic prone areas in the world.
