Malaylee community celebrate Onam across the world

Cochin, Sep 2: The Malayalee community is all set to celebrate Onam marking the homecoming of the legendary King Mahabali.

The ten-day long harvest festival which falls in the Malayalee month of Chingam is one of the most lively and distinct festivals celebrated in India.

While games like Onakalikal, Talappanthukali, Kayyankali, Attakalam, Ambeyyal, KutuKutu fills the fest with vigour, traditions like Onapookkalam or the rangoli of flowers add to the brilliance of the celebrations.

Being a harvest festival a lot of importance is given to the food. The grand vegetarian lunch called 'Sadya' includes dishes like avial, red rice, tomato rassam, olan, kalan, mor kuzhambu, palada pradhaman and more.

While God's own country sees the best of the celebrations, Malayalees all over the world come together as a community on this day.
