Students, transport workers protest in JK
Srinagar, Sep 1: Two separate incidents of violence were reported from Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, Sep 1 prompting the police into taken quick action to contain the agitation.
While hundreds of employees of of the Jammu and Kashmir State Road Transport Corporation protested against the delay in the payment of their salaries, the students in Srinagar clashed with the state police protesting against the fact that Jammu University has not yet been granted a Central status.
The transport workers who were marching towards the civil secretariat were stopped near Lal Chowk. The police had to use tear gas and water cannons to disperse the crowd.
In Srinagar, the angry students pelted stones at the police. The police personnel were forced to resort to lathicharge and restrict them in the campus so that the protests did not hit the streets.
