Metro lax in ensuring its workers' safety
New Delhi, Sep 1(ANI): Following a spate of accidents at Delhi Metro construction sites, Delhi Government may initiate legal action against Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC), if it observes fault with pending studies on safety of workers at its sites, said Delhi Labour Secretary K S Wahi on Tuesday.
"Definitely we are not satisfied. It seems they (DMRC) have been lax and compromising on safety aspects such as certain mandatory drills like ensuring medical checkups, hygiene and basic amenities," Wahi said.
"We are not satisfied with the steps being taken by Delhi Metro as far as working condition of the workers is concerned," he added.
Wahi, who is analysing the report on safety of workers at its sites submitted by Delhi Metro, also said that the State Government would make some further studies, and if they are not satisfied with the result, legal action would be initiated against DMRC.
"We are probing further if the lapses are fatal in nature. If grave deficiencies are found, we will initiate legal action," he said. (ANI)
