Jaswant Book Ban: SC issues notice to Gujarat
New Delhi, Sep 1: The Supreme Court has reportedly issued notice to the Gujarat government on the petition filed by expelled BJP leader, Jaswant Singh challenging the ban on his book in the state.
Asking the state government's counsel to seek instruction on the issue, the bench comprising Justice Altamas Kabir and Cyriac Joseph posted the issue for further hearing to next Tuesday, Sep 8.
The senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader's advocates argued that banning the book was in violation of the fundamental rights of its author and publisher.
Jaswant Singh's book on Pakistan's found, Mohammad Ali Jinnah titled, 'Jinnah: India Independence Partition' was banned by the Narendra Modi government on Aug 19 citing that the book questioned the patriotism and maligned the image of Indian freedom fighter, Sardar Vallabhai Patel.
