Now, govt not against Ambani family MoU

New Delhi, Sep 1: The government has reportedly filed an application in Supreme Court with regard to the Ambani gas dispute clarifying that its appeal was not to quash any private family agreement.

The government has sought permission to amend its special leave petition filed in Jul 2009.

The government has also urged the Supreme Court to to set aside only the Bombay High Court judgement that relates to the interpretation of its gas utilisation policy and provisions of the Production Sharing Contract, say reports.

Further, the government has also sought a direction that the policy and Production Sharing Contract would have supremacy and cannot be controlled by a private arrangement.

The government's petition submitted in Jul 2009 asked the court to declare as null and void that part of the Ambani family MoU that provides for dividing natural gas from RIL's KG-D6 fields between the Ambani brothers.

The final hearing is scheduled to commence from Oct 20.
