Indian tech firms offering paternity leave
Bangalore, Aug 28: Following central government's instructions to increase child adoption leave from 135 to 180 days, many Indian firms are providing paternity leave, reported Times News Network.
Perceiving adopted children at par with biological babies, theses tech firms are providing both parents paid leave for childbirth and initial care for adopted children.
Previously, under HR practices of India Inc, only women were allowed child bearing/raising leave while fathers had to take leave or give up their salaries.
Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) seems to be initiating this practice. The company provides 3 months paid maternity/ paternity leave for biological and adopted children.
TCS, vice-president, (global HR), Ritu Anand says, “In addition to regular 3-month maternity leave for women, we offer an equal period of paid adoption leave for employees, irrespective of gender."
Saurabh Govil, senior vice-president (HR), Wipro Technologies said that the company would also soon follow this system.
