Ambani row will affect Indian markets: Mukherjee

New Delhi, Aug 27: Finance Minister has urged the Ambani brothers to settle their dispute soon in the larger interest of the nation and its markets.

Speaking at an Idea Exchange programme organised by The Express Group Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday, Aug 26 described the battle between the brothers unfortunate and said that he could not mediate between Anil and Mukesh.

"I knew the late (Reliance Group patriarch) Dhirubhai Ambani very well from the 1970s on. I saw the boys growing up. Because they are sons of Dhirubhai it is very difficult for me to make a distinction between the two. And I am not the competent person. There should be somebody else (to mediate)," he said.

Pointing out that their businesses are so big that a dispute like this would have a severe impact on the capital markets, the FM said, "They are much bigger than they were in the 1970s... and that is why the Prime Minister himself has said that both of them should try to sort out their issues."

Also describing Anil Dhirubhai Ambani Group"s (ADAG"s) criticism of Oil and Natural Gas Minister Murli Deora over the pricing of gas from RIL"s Krishna Godavari D6 basin as 'unfortunate', Mukherjee said that Deora had only done his job by taking the decision based on what would best serve the interests of the country.
