Maoists violence in Jharkhand, Orissa on second day of shutdown

Ranchi, Aug 25 (ANI): Maoists burnt down four trucks and injured one security person here on Tuesday on the second day of the shutdown, declared by them in five states.

According to an eyewitness, there were more than 30-armed Maoists who attacked and urnt several trucks on National Highway-33, about 40 km from Ranchi.

"There were more than 30 armed people who asked us leave the trucks and go away. fter that they burnt down trucks," said Shayam Sunder, a truck driver.

Police officials believe that the attack was basically targeted against them.

"Around 12 in the night, our patrolling party was moving on the road. There were some trucks ahead of us, which they burnt. Basically, they were targeting police," said Anup T Mathew, Superintendent of Police.

Earlier in the day, Maoists blew up a railway station and abducted three railway employees in Orissa's Sundargarh district.

According to the police, about 20 left-wing ultras blew up Roxy railway station, located in a remote area under K Bolang police station and triggered the explosion after asking the employees to move out.

The rebels also set ablaze about 15 heavy vehicles parked near the railway station.he station is used for transporting iron ore to the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP).

Tension prevailed among the people in the entire district after the attack.

Maoists have called for a two-day strike in five states-Jharkhand, Orissa, Bihar, West Bengal and Chhattisgarh-to protest against the alleged arrest of two senior members of the CPI Maoist group. (ANI)
