BT to cease graduate recruitment scheme
London, Aug 24: According to British newspaper repiorts, the telecom giant BT which is the Britain's ninth-largest employer has decided to do away with the graduate recruitment scheme citing economic slump.
"In the light of the current economic environment and headcount pressures, BT has taken the decision to cease graduate recruitment activity and are no longer running a graduate recruitment programme," The Guardian newspaper reported quoting a statement issued by British Telecom (BT).
According to the report, the number of applicants for the 130 jobs on BT's graduate recruitment programme has mounted to 4,800 in 2009 from 3,800 in 2007.
This move is believed to be part of chief executive Ian Livingstone's plan to cut 30,000 jobs within two years.
