Moderate earthquake shakes Taiwan
Taipei, Aug 22: A moderate earthquake of 5.6 magnitude hit Taiwan at around 4: 57 am on Saturday, Aug 22. There are no reports of damage or casualties
According to the Taiwanese Authorities the earthquake was centered about 20 miles (32 kilometers) south of Pingtung county on Taiwan's southern coast.
The epicenter of the quake is within 60 miles (95 kilometers) of the area hardest hit by recent Typhoon Morakot, which killed nearly 500 people.
Although the island frequently experiences mild to moderate temblors, a 7.6-magnitude earthquake rocked Taiwan in 1999 that claimed more than 2,300 lives.
