New Delhi, Aug 18: Assam governor Syed Sibtey Razi on Tuesday, Aug 18 said that he will not step down from the post and dismissed reports as "absolutely false" that Prime Minister had asked him to resign.

After meeting Home Minister P Chidambaram, he said, "I am not going to resign. I was Governor, I am a Governor and will be Governor till October (when his term ends)."

"There is no indication from the Prime Minister. I have no idea what is the basis of the report. Yeh bilkul galat hai (This is absolutely false)."

Sources in the Prime Minister's Office also denied the allegations and termed the media reports that he has been asked to quit as "totally untrue".

Earlier, media reports said that Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has asked him to quit after allegations of corruption in the Jharkhand Raj Bhavan when he was Governor of Jharkhand.
