World Bank to provide US 330 million dollars for Haryana Power System Improvement Project

New Delhi Aug 17 (ANI): The Government signed agreements with the World Bank for 'Haryana Power System Improvement Project' here today.

The total cost of the project is US 471 million dollars out of which US 330 million dollars will be financed by the World Bank.

The development objective of the project is to improve the availability, efficiency and accountability of electricity supply in the State of Haryana through strengthening the transmission and distribution system.

The project components are transmission system strengthening; urban distribution system strengthening; and technical assistance and capacity building of transmission and distribution companies.

The project will be implemented entirely in the State of Haryana, by two state-owned companies viz. the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd., and the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited.

Agreements were signed by Dr. Anup K. Pujari, Joint Secretary (MI), Department of Economic Affairs on behalf of Government of India.

The other signatories were Jyoti Arora, Special Secretary (Power) for the Government of Haryana, S. K. Mittal, Director (Projects) for the Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Ltd., and R. K. Khudia, Company Secretary for the Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam Limited.

Roberto Zagha, Country Director (India) signed the Agreements on behalf of the World Bank.

The project is expected to be completed by December 31, 2014. (ANI)
