Melbourne, Aug 17 (ANI): Marriage can make women pile on the pounds, according to a new study.

A study, conducted by researchers at the University of Queensland, has linked getting married to decreasing physical activity.

The researchers examined data taken from the Australian Longitudinal Study on Women's Health, which surveyed more than 14,000 young women between the ages of 22 and 27 two times, three years apart.

They found that those who got married were 32 per cent more likely to have a fall in physical activity.

According to study author Wendy Brown, this could be due to the impact on discretionary time and women putting family needs before their own.

"The risk of decreasing physical activity was . . . higher again when they had a baby, and again when they had another baby," the Courier Mail quoted Professor Brown a saying.

"It's exactly as you would expect - this is when women start to gain weight," Brown added. (ANI)
