Shillong emerging as a fashion hub

Shillong (Meghalaya), Aug 16(ANI): Several youths in Shillong are exploring career options in fashion designing or modeling world, which till recently remained a dream for most of the local boys and girls here.

Today, Shillong is fast emerging as a fashion hub with fashion shows becoming a part of almost every event.

Earlier, a lot of promising youths, despite their willingness were unsuccessful to enter the glamour world, particularly due to lack of exposure in the quest for the right platform.

Devarati Sanyal, a student at National Institute of Fashion Technology, Shillong, feels that northeast has a lot to offer when it comes to fashion, it only needs exposure.

"Fashion, if you call it that way from northeast has got a lot of potential. It's just needs a little discovery and guidance," said Sanyal.

From tiny tots to any school, festivals and college fests, fashion shows invariably form an important feature of almost every event.

Upasana Khongsngi, a local youth, said that fashion trend of Shillong, largely influenced by rock music, is not much known due to lack of exposure.

"Both fashion and Shillong goes hand in hand but the reason why we are not being able to make it at the international level is may be due to lack of exposure," said Upasana Khongsngi. (ANI)
