Pakistan High Commission celebrates Independence Day
New Delhi, Aug 14 (ANI): The consular staff of the Pakistan High Commission-led by the High Commissioner in New Delhi celebrated the nation's 62nd anniversary of Independence Day on Friday.
To mark the I-Day celebrations, the High Commission was decorated lavishly and the children of the consular staff presented colourful cultural programmes.
Pakistan High Commissioner to India, Shahid Malik, hoisted the national flag while children sang and danced.
In Pakistan, the day commenced with a 31-gun salute in Islamabad and 21-gun salute in the capitals of four provinces.
In Islamabad, the flag hoisting ceremony was held at the Convention Centre.
'Change of Guards' ceremony was the highlight of the I-Day celebrations in Karachi at the mausoleum of Mohammad Ali Jinnah, the founder of Pakistan.
India and Pakistan won the freedom from the British on the midnight of August 14 and 15, 1947.
While Pakistan celebrates its anniversary on August 14, India marks it a day later on August 15.
India was declared as a free nation from the British rule at midnight while Pakistan got its independence a minute before. (ANI)
