'Dr Death' will face murder trial in 2010

Australia, Aug 14: Former Bundaberg surgeon Dr. Jayant Patel or "Dr. Death" accused of three manslaughters, two grievous bodily harm charges and an alternative charge of harmful negligent act would face jury trial from Mar 2010.

The trial is expected to run for between 10 and 12 weeks.

Patel, 59, faces charges that all relate to his time as director of surgery at Bundaberg Base Hospital between 2003 and 2005.

The case has been set down for review on October 22.

Daily Telegraph reported that Justice John Byrne would judge the trial, which would be held in the Supreme Court in Brisbane.
