Pakistan flip flops, wants nukes banned

Geneva, Aug 13: Looks like Pakistan has a change of stance on nuclear weaponary. A report in Pakistan Online News Service quoted a foreign ministry spokesman as saying, "Pakistan subscribes to the goals of nuclear disarmament and non-proliferation... and has always played an active and constructive role in the conference."

The country which is seen as a hinderance to the global nuclear disarmament, is now showing 'legitimate' interest for security of all states.

In the statement released by Islamabad, the country argues that in any move towards new talks in the Conference on Disarmament in Geneva must be based on the security of all states.

Pakistan is one of the countries that has not signed the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. According to experts, this move by Pakistan comes with an aim to preserve its nuclear status.
