Army officers Mohit Sharma, Srikumar get Ashok Chakra posthumously

New Delhi, Aug 13 (ANI): The Government on Thursday decided to honour Major Mohit Sharma and Major D.Srikumar with the country's highest peacetime gallantry award the Ashok Chakra.

Both Major Sharma and Major Kumar will receive the honour posthumously.

Major Sharma, 31 belonged to the Para regiment and lost his life along with four others while fighting terrorists in the Hafrada forest of Kupwara District in March this year.

According to sources, the government also announced four Shaurya Chakra and 131 Kirti Chakra awards.

President Pratibha Patil will present the gallantry awards on ndependence Day. (ANI)
