Pakistan rejects reports about attack on nuke sites
Islamabad, Aug. 12 (ANI): Pakistan has rejected reports that its nuclear facilities were attacked by militants at least thrice in the last two years.
"It is rubbish. These aspersions are factually incorrect and are part of typical propaganda campaign to malign Pakistan," The Nation quoted the Pakistan Army's chief spokesman Major General Athar Abbas, as saying.
Major General Abbas said Pakistan's nuclear establishments are secured through multi-layered security mechanism, and there was no chance of them falling into the hands of militants.
Earlier, a senior U.S. official told FOX News that Pakistan's nuclear facilities have been attacked three times by home-grown extremists over the past two years.
He confirmed a report in West Point's Combating Terrorism Center Sentinel describing an attack on a nuclear missile storage facility at Sargodha on November 1, 2007, and a homicide bombing at the nuclear airbase at Kamra on December 10, 2007.
The US Army has said it is unaware of any such attacks.
"I am not in a position to talk about it in particular," Pentagon Press Secretary Geoff Morrell said. (ANI)
