'Diabetic Mehsud killed during a leg massage'

Islamabad, Aug 12: Several stories are the doing rounds regarding the death of Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan chief Baitullah Mehsud.

The latest media report has claimed that Mehsud was killed while getting a leg massage on the roof of his father-in-law's house in South Waziristan.

According to CNN, Mehsud was a diabetic, and was receiving a leg massage when the drone struck.

"US surveillance in Pakistan spied a short, stocky man resembling the physical description of Baitullah on the roof of his father-in-law's home in South Waziristan," CNN quoted a US official, as saying.

"No one was expecting him home for dinner that night," the unnamed official said.

Earlier, a top Taliban commander Hakimullah Mehsud challenged Islamabad to prove that the TTP chief was dead.

The United States, which earlier claimed that Mehud has been killed, has also failed to provide any substantial evidence in this regard.

"The Pakistani government believes that he is (dead), and all evidence that we have suggests that," US National Security Adviser General James Jones said.

When enquired about reports of two top Taliban commanders being also killed in an infighting that followed Mehsud's death, General Jones said reports could not be verified.

"We've heard stories about that. We can't confirm it. But it certainly appears to be that there was some dissension in the ranks. That's not a bad thing for us," he said.
