Amritsar's Khanna Paper Mills, the largest user of paper waste in country
Amritsar, Aug 12 (ANI) Based in Amritsar, Khanna Paper Mills Pvt Ltd specializes in manufacturing quality and environment friendly paper from waste paper.
It caters to the domestic market and exports it to SAARC countries, Africa and Middle East as well.
Started in 1965 by founder chairman B M Khanna with a 200-kg-per-day board unit, the company today has a capacity of 750 tonnes.
An ISI 9001 certified company; Khanna Paper Mills is the third largest single-location plant and the largest user of paper waste in the country.
It imports waste paper to make re-cycled products, which are environment friendly and use less energy to produce.
The company grew and in keeping with the changing ideologies of the new century, Brij Mohan conceived the idea of making quality paper from waste paper. Such thinking was typical of the man who moves with the times and has always been mindful of the critical need to preserve our natural resources, and use viable alternatives that do not preclude cutting down of trees.
Rahul Khanna, Director, Marketing and Finance said: "The environment is going to become an issue in times to come and that's what it has become today. We are lucky that we are environment friendly then agro based or pulp based; we are happily recycled.
Despite the global financial crisis, the company is hopeful of achieving a turnover of about 200 million dollars in the current financial year.
"There are some whiteness parameters, which can't be met with the recycle, but in the developed countries, they acknowledge it and they use recycle in place of virgin. Unfortunately in developing countries, even in India, its still not there. Its lack of our own will as just for example- the laws are still there that only virgin, don't use recycle. Even the government doesn't use. In England, America, there is a law by government to use only recycle," Rahul Khanna added. To produce one ton of paper, 17 trees are felled, so by utilizing waster paper for manufacturing paper, Khanna Paper Mills is saving many trees.
With a strong environmental policy, they are the market leaders in the manufacture of paperboard out of recycled paper in India. Bullish about the demand for writing and packaging recycled paper, Khanna Paper Mills is aiming to reach new heights. By Ravinder Singh Robin(ANI)
