Supreme Court grants 10 lakh rupees as ex-gratia to Sohrabuddin's family
New Delhi, Aug. 11 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Tuesday granted 10 lakh rupees as interim exgratia to the family of Sohrabuddin Sheikh who was killed by Gujarat Police in a fake encounter in 2005.
The issue of referring the case to a Special Investigating Team will be decided on September 2, a Bench comprising Justices Tarun Chatterjee and Aftab Alam said.
The Gujarat Government has opposed the idea of referring the case to an SIT team headed by former CBI Director R K Raghavan.
Sohrabuddin was reportedly gunned down on November 26, 2005 after being branded a Lashkar-e-Toiba militant by the state police, allegedly trying to hatch a conspiracy to kill Modi.
The cops also allegedly killed Sohrabuddin's wife, Kausar Bi. (ANI)
